The client

BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT promotes wider social and economic progress through the advancement of IT science and practice. As the professional membership and accreditation body for IT, BCS serves over 70,000 members in the UK and internationally, delivering a range of professional development tools for practitioners and employees.

The challenge

The project began when BCS commissioned Box UK to perform a retrospective evaluation of their website in order to update it and better align it with their website strategy. During this process, BCS decided to undertake a comprehensive rebranding of their organisation, which provided a great opportunity to rebuild the navigation, architecture and aesthetic design of the site. The new website needed to provide all necessary information in a clear and intuitive format, with the users’ needs at the centre of the design process.

Our solution

Working closely with BCS, Box UK’s User Experience team evaluated how their existing website met their business objectives and users’ needs. Out of this analysis came a series of recommendations to better align BCS’s online presence with their new brand and strategy.

A key project to arise from the review was the creation of an online social network; our web developers created the Amaxus® Social Media Module specifically for this project to provide the basis for a fully-featured, dedicated network for BCS members. Because of the challenging timescales of the project, an Agile management approach was taken, providing added flexibility, and the opportunity for requirements to evolve throughout development.

The outcome

The relaunch of the BCS public website and member network has been very well received; there has been sustained, increased traffic to the website resulting in BCS gaining greater visibility online.

The network is easy for BCS to maintain as it is managed by the same Amaxus installation that runs the main site. The flexible, collaborative nature of this project has proved extremely successful, and we are proud to continue supporting BCS in making improvements to the site.
