Conceived as a test-bed for our rapid application development framework, Smynx is a Box UK side project that allows us to experiment with a variety of modern technologies and techniques.
Working with the talented illustrators at design agency Turbomilk, we created a user experience that lets people share id
eas and suggest interesting things to do, in an easy, fun environment.
Highlights of the project include:
- Rich social networking features, including profiles, friends, messages, comments, avatars, ratings, notifications and tagging,
- Mapping technology, including geolocation and Google Maps integration. Text on the website (e.g. example text) is invisibly personalised by location to aid usability.
- A unique Javascript Sketch Pad, which is also iPhone compatible.
- Hosting 'in the cloud', on Amazon Web Services EC2 and S3.
- Technically, it's Ruby on Rails using Edge Rails, utilising Test Driven Development with over 90% test coverage.
- A full REST API, including POST, PUT, DELETE and GET support.
- Creative Commons licensed content.
- Personalised RSS feeds.
- Flickr support.
