Amaxus to drive website for European research network provider, DANTE
DANTE have selected Box UK to implement the Amaxus content management system to drive their website.
Like many sites, the amount of content on the DANTE site has grown considerably over time, and DANTE's web team were concerned that the information wasn't being provided to visitors in the most user-friendly manner. The site had essentially outgrown its current system, and needed an extensible, future-proofed solution that could provide a system to meet DANTE's needs now and in the future. DANTE have selected Amaxus as this solution, and Box UK are looking forward to working with DANTE and providing a system that meets and exceeds their expectations.
The new site is expected to be launched in September.
About DANTE
Since its creation in 1993, DANTE (Delivery of Advanced Network Technology to Europe) has been responsible for four consecutive generations of European research networks, and is active in the ongoing development of European research networking.
DANTE is owned by a number of European research networks and has "Research Association" status in the UK.
It plans, builds and manages international networking services on their behalf. The pan-European research network enables European scientists to compete on an international stage by providing them with a world-class backbone that offers the bandwidth and the Quality of Service required for research and development activities at this level.
It represents the basis for the introduction of 'virtual laboratories' and 'virtual institutes' in Europe.
Introducing GÉANT
GÉANT is a four-year project, set up by a Consortium of 27 European national research and education networks (NRENs), with DANTE as its co-ordinating partner. Co-funded by the European Commission as part of its Framework V Programme, its goal was the improvement of the previous generation of pan-European research network, TEN-155, by creating a backbone at Gigabit speeds.
Since 1st December 2001, the GÉANT network has been in full production service, taking over from the previous pan-European research network TEN-155.
Reaching over 3,000 research and education institutions in over 30 countries through 28 national and regional research and education networks, GÉANT provides the highest capacity and offers the greatest geographic coverage of any network of its kind in the world. It has dual roles of providing an infrastructure to support researchers, as well as providing an infrastructure for (network) research itself.
Nine circuits at the core of the network operate at speeds of 10 Gbps, while eleven others run at 2.5 Gbps.
