Is content completely independent of page layout?

Content and presentation are kept completely separate within the system.  All content is stored as XML, and template layout and style is applied using XSL and style sheets.  The individual components that make up the content is entered into separate fields and stored separately in the database.  This allows for the content to be output in a number of formats, and facilitates powerful searching and presentation of information based on metadata.
