Website Audit

Case study of past project

Case Study: Leading Central Government Agency

Creation of a new website focused on Best Practice in the private sector.

Background

  • A large government department wanted to launch a new website focused on providing best practice business advice to the public sector
  • The website was to contain relevant content to a wide variety of business sectors and sizes of businesses
  • The new website was to contain content from existing department websites and newly commissioned material

Consulting Brief

  • Although the department had been working on the new website for a while outside help was required due to internal resource constraints
  • The brief was to audit current website content and provide a development plan for the creation of new content and the new website design

Analysis

  • Phase 1:
The first phase of the project was to ensure internal stakeholder buy in and to maximise the in-house work that had already been undertaken through a series of interviews and focus group sessions.
  • Phase 2:
The second phase of the project involved auditing the content of the department’s current websites for documents that were relevant to the new best practice website. This included text documents, streaming videos and interactive objects on the websites.
  • Phase 3:
The third phase of the project involved gap analysis of the content available to that required for the new website. From this gap analysis a website development plan was created highlighting areas where new content was required and the documents that required rewriting to fit the new brief.
  • Phase 4:
The creation of new content for the website and the rewriting of documents to fit with the style and approach of the new website.

Solution

  • The development of the new website was project managed in an effective way to ensure prompt delivery of the various stages of the  project
  • Stakeholder buy in was important to ensure the co-operation of the various areas within the government department
