United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority
The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) pioneered the development of nuclear energy in the UK. Today it is responsible for managing the decommissioning of the nuclear reactors and other radioactive facilities used for the UK's nuclear research and development programme in a safe and environmentally sensitive manner.
UKAEA is a non-departmental public body, funded mainly by its lead department the Department of Trade and Industry.
