RSS

RSS - RDF Site Summary (sometimes called Rich Site Summary), is an XML format for syndicating Web content.

Many web sites publish summaries of their content using RSS files. For example, news sites often publish their headlines with short descriptions and links to the full stories on their websites. An RSS file that is regularly updated constitutes an RSS feed. The contents of an RSS feed is usually updated every few hours.

These RSS feeds can be downloaded by a secondary site, and the information it contains can be extracted and displayed on this secondary website.

RSS was originally developed by Netscape. Since then, development has diverged and there are now two principal versions of this format in use: RSS 0.91, which is a fairly simple XML specification, and RSS 1.0 which is more advanced - its basic specification can be supplemented by additional modules.
