Charity partnership

Further enhancing its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy, leading software development consultancy Box UK has released details of plans to deepen its involvement with charitable causes. Working with a single nominated charity over a period of 12 months, the organisation will engage in a co-ordinated fundraising effort so as to most effectively leverage the philanthropic potential of its team.

Tŷ Hafan

For 2014 the selected charity is Tŷ Hafan, a hospice that helps life-limited children and their families by providing comfort, care and support services wherever they are required, from the hospice and home through to the wider community, to improve the quality of life for the whole family. Initially targeting an end-year goal of raising £2,000, it is widely anticipated that the team might exceed this amount.

Fundraising activities

Supporting the rollout of Box UK’s charity plans is a dedicated committee responsible for organising events and driving participation throughout the team. Made up of representatives from across different departments and roles, the group has already executed a ‘Box UK Bake Off’ and is now working on support for Tŷ Hafan’s ‘Rainbow Run Wales’. Taking place on the 27th April 2014, the organisation is submitting a 10-strong team in the race, and several individuals have volunteered to support the administrative side of the event and help ensure its smooth running.

Alongside these initiatives the team is also working with Foodbank, which delivers vital food packs to local people in need, in response to the overwhelming support for the charity already evidenced by team members. To effectively support the charity Box UK’s committee is managing a campaign to contribute the supplies needed for these emergency provisions, with a number of collection stations set up throughout the organisation’s office.

Support and awareness

As well as direct donations, Box UK’s team will also apply its technical experience and expertise to help facilitate Tŷ Hafan’s work in meeting the needs of the young people and families it supports. To provide a forum for idea generation, collaboration and development, a specialist charity Hacknight has been planned, with team members giving their time for free in order to create useful products and services such as applications to streamline event registrations and interactive games for children at the hospice.

Giving back to the community

Commenting on the proposed activity, Box UK’s Managing Director Benno Wasserstein said: “Giving back to the wider community is something we value highly at Box UK, and we’re pleased to be extending our existing CSR commitments with a formal fundraising strategy that will enable us to target our efforts more effectively. We’re proud to be working with Tŷ Hafan as our charity partner, and plan to support them in any way we can over the coming twelve months.”
