International electronics distributor RS Components has been shortlisted in this year’s Retail Systems Awards, in recognition of the Obsolescence Manager project recently delivered by software consultancy Box UK.
The awards, which celebrate leading examples of technology excellence and innovation in the retail sector, shortlisted the solution for “Best Engagement & Loyalty Scheme in the Retail Sector”, alongside organisations such as Argos Financial Services and Coop, Denmark’s largest retailer of consumer goods.
RS Components embarked on the Obsolescence Manager project to help tackle the challenges faced by the electronics industry as thousands of components reach end-of-life and become obsolete each year. For companies reliant on such components for their products, obsolescence often means costly redesigns, production line delays, and time-consuming research activities to identify suitable alternatives.
With RS Components’ DesignSpark community home to 500,000 engineers facing this very challenge, the organisation wanted to provide an online solution that would help these engineers perform their roles more effectively, and so drive increased engagement with the platform alongside greater brand loyalty.
To deliver the project RS Components turned to Box UK, a long-term technical partner that has worked closely with the organisation since 2013 on a number of projects, including the redevelopment of the DesignSpark platform to support on-going growth and diversification. The software development consultancy developed a tool that provides engineers with the lifecycle status of the parts they use, enabling them to proactively manage obsolescence across the lifetime of their projects. In doing so, these engineers are encouraged to interact with RS Components at the very earliest stages of their projects, helping foster loyalty throughout the subsequent design, build and maintenance activities.
Box UK’s Managing Director Benno Wasserstein said of the announcement: “This latest shortlisting for RS Components is a great achievement, and a fantastic reflection of the strong partnership built up between our two organisations over the years. We’re extremely proud of the work we’ve delivered for RS Components, which has helped drive the growth of the DesignSpark community, increased traffic to the site, and gained recognition from industry bodies such as the Communicator Awards and the WalesOnline Digital Awards, and look forward to building on this as we continue to support the organisation on its digital journey.”
Now into their 12th year, the Retail Systems Awards recognise technology excellence and innovation within the retail sector. Winning entries come from retailers and technology suppliers who are leading the way in areas such as mobile, online, payments, loyalty and personalisation. This year’s winners will be announced at the Retail Systems Awards Gala Dinner & Ceremony on 19 October 2017; an event that last year attracted over 300 guests.
