Leading medical knowledge provider BMJ, and software development consultancy Box UK have been honoured in the 2018 UK Digital Experience Awards, at a ceremony held at the Park Plaza Riverbank in London following a day of finalist presentations.

The awards named BMJ Best Practice – an online decision support tool used by healthcare professionals worldwide to improve outcomes for patients – the Gold Winner in both the “Best Online User Experience B2B” and “Digital Change and Transformation” categories.

BMJ Best Practice gives doctors fast and easy access to the latest information when making diagnosis and treatment decisions. Updated daily, it draws on the latest evidence-based research, guidelines and expert opinion to offer step-by-step guidance on diagnosis, treatment and prevention.

To do this effectively, information needs to be instantly accessible, anywhere it’s needed. BMJ therefore approached Box UK with the requirement to rebuild their Best Practice mobile app from the ground up, with a focus on improving usability, accessibility and performance.

The app is now unique in its market, providing evidence-based information in an easy-to-use yet clinically-accurate way, both online and offline.

Speaking in response to the announcement, Louise Crowe, Director of BMJ Knowledge said: “We are delighted that our partnership with Box UK has been recognised within the digital sector, and that the BMJ Best Practice app continues to be a valued tool that helps healthcare professionals make the best decisions with their patients. Providing access to trusted, evidence-based content through our intuitive app is an important part of our vision to help create a healthier world.”

Benno Wasserstein, Managing Director at Box UK, added: “It’s fantastic to see BMJ Best Practice recognised by the UK Digital Experience Awards; to be named a Gold Winner in two categories is a truly impressive achievement.

“We’re proud to have worked with BMJ to deliver improvements to the Best Practice App that help medical professionals across the globe make effective clinical decisions at the point of care. This latest announcement – following the app’s success in the WalesOnline Digital Awards last month – is a wonderful reflection of the skill and commitment of the entire Best Practice team.”

Congratulating the finalists, Neil Skehel, CEO of Awards International, said: “We are truly inspired by the outstanding digital talent showcased once again at the UK Digital Experience Awards. This year we have seen many outstanding initiatives which are breaking the mould and creating a digital customer experience journey that is truly supportive and engaging. This amazing event was supported by our partners and judges and gave us the opportunity to acknowledge forward-thinking companies and celebrate with these incredible finalists.”
