Powering BCS forward with an online social network.

As you’d expect, BCS the Chartered Institute for IT’s members know what they’re talking about when it comes to technology. So when the organisation made the decision to undertake a comprehensive rebranding project, they knew their digital platform had to be a key area of focus. 

And for that, they came to Box UK.

Alongside overhauling their existing website, we created a bespoke online social network to provide BCS members with a community space in which to find information, discuss industry topics and explore new ideas. 

The results were impressive - driving a 36% increase in membership page traffic and helping BCS win Best Use of Web/Digital in the Transform Awards.

Putting the pieces in place

Before embarking on the full redesign of their existing platform, BCS needed to be sure that they were heading in the right direction. They therefore commissioned Box UK’s user experience consultants to highlight opportunities for improvement and enhancement, based on business objectives and user needs.

The first elements to be addressed were the site’s navigation and architecture, which were rebuilt alongside a visual design overhaul. This provided the information BCS members needed in a clear and intuitive format - but we knew that with such a discerning audience of IT practitioners and employees we had to offer something extra.

Making the connection

Drawing on the results of our earlier assessment, we recommended the creation of a fully-featured, dedicated social network - built onto the bespoke Content Management System (CMS) that was already powering the rest of the site. This new service was also integrated with additional BCS systems such as their proprietary CRM to enable the secure transmission of authentication information - so that users only have to login once to access all available member content. 



Reaping the rewards

The revamped public website and membership network has driven sustained, increased traffic for BCS, including a 36% rise in membership page visits - more than justifying their decision to undertake such a transformative project.
