One input. Two platforms.

It’s great to be able to do two things at once. That’s why, when Thinkbox were preparing to launch a brand-new iPad application to augment their existing desktop service, they asked us to come up with a solution that meant they only had one set of content to manage. 

Our custom API connected the app with the Content Management System (CMS) powering the main Thinkbox site - so that content could be pushed to one or both channels with a simple click of a button.

Increasing reach...

Thinkbox’s target audience is made up of busy TV and media professionals, and providing them with access to relevant and up-to-date information on-the-go is a critically important objective for the organisation. They therefore wanted to make sure that their new iPad application offered all the same rich content as their existing desktop site - and, crucially, that any changes to live content were immediately reflected in the app. 

With a powerful CMS underpinning the website, it was clear that we needed to extend its capabilities to accommodate the application too. And connecting the two systems meant one thing: a custom API. 

As the app was being built by a third-party supplier, we worked closely with them throughout the project. We made sure that the API was regularly tested in the production environment - so that when it came time to integrate the service, everything fitted perfectly. 

...reducing effort

But what’s the point of having a single system underpinning different distribution channels if you still have to do double the work? We wanted to save Thinkbox valuable administration time, so we configured their system so that content only has to be entered once. The team simply have to tag the content to identify where it should be displayed, and the CMS does the rest.

An all-round success story

Thinkbox’s users now have access to a wealth of facts, figures, videos, commentary and other resources at their fingertips, enabling them to keep up-to-date with the latest TV advertising trends, technologies and opportunities where and when they want to. And Thinkbox have a new channel through which to engage their key audience, while keeping their administrative overheads low.
