As a mark of celebration for International Women’s Day we interviewed 6 of Box UK’s outstanding women, who themselves are ‘Breaking The Bias’ towards women in technology.  Here we talk to Federica Monticelli one of our UX Designers.

Q. Why do you think it’s important for more women to join the tech industry?

I think it’s important that more women have the opportunity to know they can join the tech industry if they want to, in the first place. It’s important to make it clear that all of us as individuals can choose the job we love and desire.

Q. What advice would you give yourself just starting out?

You don’t have to be perfect straight away – you just have to be ready to learn.

Q. Do you think enough is done to help women get into the tech industry? If not, what would you recommend?

Education to equal opportunities from the earliest years of life it’s a great starting point!

Q. What first sparked your interest in working in the tech industry?

I was six years old and my mother gave me a Gameboy with a 1989 version of Super Mario Bros in black and white. I asked her how it was possible that I was able to control ‘the little character drawn on the screen’, and she answered “it’s tech magic”. So I said “When I’m grown up, I’ll be a tech witch”. Abracadabra!
