Supporting 130,000 global members: How we helped RICS go mobile-first

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) needed to modernise how its members track professional development. We teamed up with them to replace aging systems with a high-performance mobile app. By working as one combined team, we built a solution that works for over 130,000 professionals worldwide, helping them stay compliant even as global regulations shift.
Equipped 130,000+ professionals with mobile CPD tracking
Delivered feature parity across iOS and Android
Launched in step with RICS’s 2026 global framework
The challenge: Moving past paper and desktops
RICS members were finding it difficult to log their professional development on the go. Relying on desktop-only tools created a few big problems:
- Hard to track: Members couldn’t easily record their progress while on-site or at seminars.
- Slow updates: Older systems couldn’t keep up with new laws or changing standards around things like AI and net-zero building.
- Risk to standards: If reporting is difficult, it becomes harder for members to prove they’re meeting the high standards the public expects.
The solution: One team, one goal
We didn’t just build an app and hand it over. Instead, we worked alongside the RICS engineering team to make sure their expert knowledge was baked into every part of the tech.
Together, we focused on a few areas:
- Record in the moment: A simple tracker that lets members log their learning as it happens.
- Digital ID: A secure way for members to verify their professional status on their phones.
- Smart help: Automatic reminders to help members hit deadlines without the stress.
- Built for everyone: A system that works just as well on Android as it does on iOS, no matter where in the world a member is working.
As of May 2026, members have already logged over 16,500 CPD activities directly through the app, proving the demand for ‘on-the-go’ recording.
Great, simple App – ★★★★★
Finally! Really glad this app has been reinstated makes recording CPD far easier than logging into the RICS website. Very easy to use, can copy & paste items from previous CPD sessions. A very welcome resource.

How we did it: Working as partners
The success of this project came down to how we worked together. By blending our technical experts with the RICS team, we solved a few tough problems:
- Matching new rules: We aligned the app’s features with a brand-new set of professional requirements that RICS launched at the same time.
- Shared knowledge: Our teams learned from each other throughout the build. This means the RICS team is in a great position to maintain and grow the app in the future.
The Results: Better tools for a global community
The new app launched right on time for the 2026 global framework. Here is what we achieved together:
- Full support: 130,000+ professionals now have access to the tool, with 11,418 unique members already actively engaged.
- Fair experience: The app offers the same features and performance on both Apple and Android devices (with an 80/20 install split).
- Faster delivery: Working as a joint team helped us move quickly and meet a critical global deadline.
What we learned
Working on this project reinforced a few things we truly believe in. First, co-creation works. A blended team is almost always better than a traditional vendor relationship when the project is this important. Second, mobile tools are a necessity, not a luxury, for people who spend their days in the field. Finally, we saw that technology works best when it’s built to support clear, modern standards.
What this means for your organisation
If you run a membership body, the pressure on your digital tools is only going one way. Members expect to do everything from their phone. Regulators expect faster, cleaner evidence that standards are being upheld. And the standards themselves keep shifting, around AI, sustainability, safety, ethics. The systems built five or ten years ago to handle CPD, certification, or compliance weren’t designed for any of that.
The question isn’t whether to modernise. It’s how to do it without losing institutional knowledge in the handover, and without building something that’s already outdated by the time it ships.
