Software development company Box UK has been named as a double winner in the WalesOnline Digital Awards, for its innovative work with leading medical journal the BMJ.
The BMJ Best Practice App developed by Box UK was honoured in both the “Best Mobile App” and “Best Global Reach” categories of the awards, which celebrate the very best in Wales’ thriving digital sector, at a ceremony in central Cardiff last Friday.
The BMJ Best Practice app is a crucial decision-making tool that provides students and medical practitioners with the tools they need to better understand symptoms and treatments at the point of care.
To do this effectively, information needs to be instantly accessible, anywhere it’s needed, so the BMJ approached Box UK with the requirement to rebuild the app with a focus on improving usability, accessibility and performance.
The app is now unique in its market, providing evidence-based information in an easy-to-use yet clinically-accurate way, both online and offline. The time required to download the app and its contents has been reduced by 70% while storage space has been reduced by 60%, and user feedback and reviews have improved significantly:
“This is the best mHealth decision support tool I have found… Highly recommended for clinicians and academics alike.”
Box UK’s Managing Director Benno Wasserstein said of the news:
“To see the Best Practice App named as winner in two categories of the WalesOnline Digital Awards is a truly impressive achievement, and testament to the commitment, passion and expertise of both the Box UK and BMJ teams that worked on the project.
“Over 100,000 medical students and professionals worldwide rely on the app to help them make informed diagnosis and treatment decisions, meaning it’s critical that information is delivered quickly and accurately. We’re extremely proud to have supported the delivery of such a vital service, and pleased to be able to celebrate its success through this latest awards announcement.”
