Each year on International Women’s Day we take pride in celebrating our colleagues that are leading the charge on breaking down bias that exists against women in certain roles within the workplace. The women that enrich our workplace and redress the balance of gender inequality. Here we speak to some of them on their opinions and experiences within the technology industry.
"Good teams form when there is a good balance of personalities and perspectives. I’ve been lucky to have worked with some great teams (and some not so great teams) and what strikes me about the empowered, high performing teams is the stronger diversity balance."
"It’s widely known that diversity is key to embracing different perspectives, increased creativity and increased innovation within teams and organisations all leading to increased revenue and growth. It’s no different in tech than the needs of other industries and so it begs the question ‘why is the tech industry so far from reaching that level of equality'?"
"After having worked for over 15 years in tech, I think things have changed a lot. Mentality has really evolved since I started, more and more women are joining this industry and even if it isn’t a 50/50 ratio we are slowly getting there."
"I think it’s important for there to be as many diverse voices in the tech industry as possible. I think we can only ensure that digital products are inclusive by making sure that the perspectives of various genders, ages, races and ability are in the room when decisions are being made."
"I think it’s important that more women have the opportunity to know they can join the tech industry if they want to, in the first place. It’s important to make it clear that all of us as individuals can choose the job we love and desire."
"In a sector recognised to be under-represented by women it’s important to redress the imbalance to encourage diversity of perspective in shaping the technology of the future, whilst also helping to close the talent shortage gap."
